The new facilities are part of a larger plan to further invest in esports on the campus. The centre point of Sheffield Hallam’s esports project is its new Esports Management degree, a BA degree that is aimed at understanding content creation, business management and journalism from an esports perspective.
The degree will be helped by Sheffield-based esports organisation Endpoint Esports, a notable organisation that fields teams in CS:GO, Rocket League and Quake: Champions. According to Sheffield Hallam University, Endpoint will contribute to the delivery of the Esports Management course.
Additionally, the facilities will be open to students who wish to learn about esports. Moreover, it will serve as a practice venue for SHU Esports players.
Nana Nyarko, Course Leader for Esports Management ,commented: “We are very excited about the new SHU Esports Lab which will serve as a digital hub for our Esports students. It will enhance a variety of learning opportunities for the students, helping them to develop key technology and creative digital skills that lead to a brighter future.
“The space is also for the students to gather separately as a community to encourage them to socialise and utilise the space as a flexible learning environment.”
