Pac-Man live-action film is in development
Video game adaptations for films seem to becoming all the rage lately. Now the Pac-Man franchise is jumping onto the boat with the announcement that a live-action movie is in the works.
The Pac-Man film will be produced by Wayfarer Studios, which is run by actor Justin Baldoni, known for producing notable films like Five Feet Apart and the Disney+ original Clouds.
According to both companies, the story will be penned by Chuck Williams, best known for being a producer in the recent Sonic the Hedgehog film and previously worked on the Disney movie Brother Bear.
Not much else is known about the upcoming film, like key visuals or even a potential release date planned. The announcement only covers the fact that it is indeed being made and only a couple names that are attached to the project.
As stated before, it seems that video game adaptations are becoming more common and appear to be more popular.
With Chuck Williams, while he only worked on the first Sonic movie, the series has now ballooned to new heights in terms of sales, with a third film being confirmed to be releasing in 2024.
There’s also the upcoming Mario film being made by Illumination Studios, a big animation company famous for its Despicable Me/Minions franchise. The studio recently saw the launch of a sequel to the latter that also is a prequel to the former.
So it’s no surprise that Pac-Man, a major icon in gaming’s history, is getting his own film adaptation. The classic yellow puck had previously a pair of TV series, with the ABC release being the first television series to be based on a video game.
