With Season Two of Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 sitting on the horizon, fans are wondering what might be delivered in the next update. Recently, imagery surfaced that points to Plunder and Cranked arriving very soon – and the iconic game modes could be deployed when Season Two lands at the start of February. It’s not such a far-fetched theory, as Cranked has been present in many Call of Duty titles in the past, and was most recently seen in Black Ops Cold War.
Plunder hasn’t been seen in the Warzone ecosystem since August 2022, when it was removed ahead of the launch of Warzone 2.0. As a fan-favourite mode, Plunder allowed players to respawn in Warzone, dropping in over and over again with the goal of securing as much money as possible. Again, it isn’t so far-fetched to believe that it will arrive in Al-Mazrah in February.
More Money, More Speed
In a post published to Twitter, three images were revealed, reportedly taken from datamining efforts in the backend of Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare II. They revealed iconic Plunder imagery, both a solo and group playlist, and the Cranked iconography that has been present in Call of Duty for years.
As with any datamined content, there’s no guarantee that these modes will actually arrive in the Call of Duty ecosystem at any point – but it is quite likely. If Plunder were to drop, it would expand the Warzone 2.0 offering considerably, with players already losing a little interest in both the battle royale and the DMZ modes. Recently, players – even the best Warzone players in the world – have been suffering under the weight of shadow-ban bugs that leave them unable to even find a match.
For Modern Warfare II, Cranked offers a no-holds-barred, high-energy game mode that sees a player become increasingly faster with each successive kill. It’s a game mode that pushes camping way out of the equation, as if you don’t move and hunt down your next target immediately, you will quite literally explode. It’s a fan-favourite mode simply for how insane the gameplay is, and it’s as iconic to the franchise as Search and Destroy.
Season Two Approaches
It’s hard to believe that it’s already so close, but Season Two of Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 is almost here – it’s just weeks away. Reportedly, Season Two will bring about something of an Eastern theme, re-introducing the Ronin operator and potentially bringing in a new Resurgence-style map that features Castle, the instantly-recognisable Japanese map first seen in World at War.
Following the leak of these icons, there are high expectations that Season Two will also usher in the next generation of Cranked and Plunder. It’s a waiting game now, and fans will continue to enjoy Season One while it lasts.
